Earlier this week we pointed to a video preview of Namco's then-upcoming Alpine Racer [App Store], a downhill ski / snowboard title that was described as "SSX-like." Firemint has kindly provided this annotated video of their upcoming Real Racing game which reveals some features of the game. These include:

• Up to 6 cars on screen
• Animated cockpit with driver and instruments showing race data
• Touch on right to accelerate. on Left to brake
• Licensed songs, different types of vehicle types
• Realistic physics and collision response
• Camera button to switch views
• Different AI personalities

Stock car racer Days of Thunder [App Store] from Freeverse is based on the 1990 film of the same name and places you in the role of main character Cole Trickle (played by Tom Cruise in the film), a hot-shot auto racing rookie seeking to win on the NASCAR curcuit.  Other characters from the film are also represented, such as crew chief and mentor Harry Hogge who quips words of advice both during and between races and love interest Dr. Claire Lewicki.

I-play has released a new racer for the iPhone called Fast and Furious: Pink Slip [App Store]. The $5.99 mobile game was recently previewed by IGN who had a chance to play with an early BREW and Java version.

Some of the most intense, adrenaline-pumping racing action ever seen on a game console comes thanks to the futuristic, anti-gravity racing franchise, Wipeout. The original, highly acclaimed Wipeout from Psygnosis made its debut on the PlayStation back in 1995 and put the player in the pilot's seat of a variety of sleek anti-gravity racing vehicles. The game challenged them to hurtle at breakneck speed down a series of unearthly metallic tracks while dodging enemy mines, missiles, and various other futuristic forms of weaponry. Sandlot Games has released an App Store title that–and we'll come right out and say it–is one of the best games available for the iPhone and iPod touch.  Snail Mail [App Store] is a kart-style racer in which the player controls a racing snail on a mission to collect packages and deliver them to the farthest reaches of the universe while dodging obstacles such as laser towers, slugs, asteroids, and salt (it burns!).
